Booker T. Washington
National Monument, VA

RBH produced the award-winning “The Measure of a Man: The Life and Legacy of Booker T. Washington” for this National Park site in Hardy, Virginia, the birthplace of noted educator, orator, and presidential advisor, Dr. Booker T. Washington. The video focuses on the meaning of the site itself: it is the only U.S. National Park that reflects the experience of enslavement and emancipation. Visitors experience the hardships of Booker's childhood on the Burroughs plantation from Dr. Washington’s point of view as a 9-year old enslaved child, and learn of the challenges Dr. Washington encountered and overcame to become a key figure in expanding educational opportunities and improving the lives of African-Americans.
